Michael Kane, MA, is Co-Director of the Research, Evaluation, and Policy Division in the CoE. He is the Senior Director, Criminal Justice Reform in the Justice, Health, and Equity Program in Commonwealth Medicine at UMass Chan. Mr. Kane is an experienced researcher, consultant, and technical assistance provider whose work has focused on supporting the implementation of evidence-based programs and practices across the criminal-legal system, including Specialty Courts, community corrections, institutional corrections, reentry, Risk-Need-Responsivity (RNR), risk-needs assessment, and core correctional practices. Prior to joining UMass Chan in August 2022, Mr. Kane was a Deputy Director at the Crime and Justice Institute where his experience included working with state and federal agencies in research, evaluation, implementation, and technical assistance capacities and serving as the project lead on many federal and state contracts, including projects funded by the Bureau of Justice Assistance, National Institute of Justice, National Institute of Corrections, MA Department of Public Health, and MA Executive Office of Public Safety & Security.
